HsM Reference Manual

Resellers can define service areas and the device-types that belong to these service areas. One device-type can only belong to one service area within a reseller. Service areas are used for multiple purposes within HsM for example for cost estimation with service requests.

Service areas and effective service areas can be viewed by any user who has the VIEW_CUSTOMER permission. Modifying service areas is bound to the EDIT_SERVICE_AREAS permission.

The list of service areas and the belonging device-types can be externally managed for a specific customer, i.e. can be managed via the Synchronization API. If a customer is marked as having externally managed service areas, service areas cannot be modified via other APIs.

Service areas and their device-type associations defined on a reseller-customer are propagated down the reseller relationship. The effective service areas of a customer and therefore also the effective classification of devices into service areas are that of the closest customer on the inclusive reseller path that has service areas defined.

Table 28 explains the attributes of service areas.
